The Flying Site at a Glance
Brauneck – A Paragliding Paradise in the Bavarian Alps
The Brauneck near Lenggries is one of Bavaria’s most popular and versatile paragliding sites. At a summit elevation of 1,555 metres with an altitude difference of around 855 metres to the valley, it offers outstanding conditions for tandem flights, training flights, and cross-country adventures.
Four launch sites enable safe take-offs in various wind directions: North, South, East, and North-East. The cable car provides convenient access for pilots and tandem passengers alike. The site is managed by the Lenggrieser Gleitschirmflieger e.V. and the Drachenfliegerclub Isarwinkel e.V.
Outstanding thermals typically run from February through October. Early mornings offer the best conditions for cross-country flights toward the Karwendel massif, before the valley breeze builds from midday. Experienced pilots use the afternoon wind for extended soaring along the ridges.
The Launch Sites
North Summit Launch
The north launch at the summit is beginner-friendly and suitable for both paragliders and hang gliders. Ideal conditions in northerly winds. Instruction flights permitted under specific conditions.
South Launch
Ramp for hang gliders, natural launch for paragliders. Note: Cable infrastructure nearby – check clearance before launch. Perfect in southerly winds with reliable valley thermals and panoramic views over the Isar valley.
Garland East Launch
Paragliders only. Turbulence possible in northerly winds – always check wind direction carefully before launching. Instruction flights only with certified instructors.
Umsetzer Launch
Approximately 20 minutes on foot from the top cable car station. Ideal in north-easterly and easterly winds. This slightly remote launch offers quieter conditions away from the summit crowds.
